5 out of 5 stars SNES game   September 10, 2008
Game Queen (Vancouver, Wa)
This game is great fun. The SNES DK series are my favorite games of all time. This game transends fun no matter what era we are in. I cant recommend this game enough. Buy it. You wont be dissapointed.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful game and a stunning soundtrack..   May 20, 2008

First off, let me say this, skip the GBA port of this game. Buy the SNES version instead for better controls and higher quality music. DKC2 is IMO, the best of the series. Challenging gameplay, wonderful music and great graphics at the time. Still fun after all these years!

5 out of 5 stars One of the Greatest Games Ever   November 2, 2007

This is without a doubt my favorite game of all time. As the second installment in the Donkey Kong series, it takes all of the positives from the first game, fixes some issues with difficulty and length, and raps it all up into the perfect package. This game is flawless. Despite not being able to play as Donkey Kong or even see him until late in the game, this is THE game to play in the series; probably THE game to play for the SNES. Story, characters, environments, soundtrack, gameplay. All of the basic elements of the video game are excecuted here to perfection.

First, what I think is one of the strongest points of the game. The music. By far the best soundtrack I've ever experienced for a video game, save for maybe a few Final Fantasy games. To think that an SNES game could generate such a rich, deep and atmospheric soundtrack is almost staggering in this day and age. Drums, horns, strings, and various unique sound effects make up this musical masterpiece. No level has an un-memorable song; it never gets old. Combined perfectly with the lush, detailed environments, the music stands out here as some of the best ever for a video game. Popping in this game and playing the Bramble Scramble level takes me back ten years to my childhood; it will stay with you for that long.

The level design in this game is phenomenal. The range of environments here is equally massive as it is balanced. Pirate ships, volcanoes, swamps, caves, forests, theme parks, castles, islands, glaciers, etc, etc, etc. All of the worlds have their own distinct atmosphere and flavor. Even some next-generation games today with the latest in graphics technology cannot match the pure beauty and artistic design of these environments. The flow of the game is also extremely impressive. There is no "bad" world. The levels make use of different layouts, enemies, allies, secrets and bosses to keep the experience fresh and exciting. This game pushed the side-scrolling genre to it's limits; it has all of the epic, awe-inspiring moments of an RPG without the annoying aspects of repetitive dungeons or turn-based action.

Speaking of gameplay, it's easy to learn and hard to master. One of the biggest gripes about the first Donkey Kong was that it was too short and too easy. Diddy's Kong Quest is neither. Obtaining 100% completion in this game is no easy task; again, it's on par with some of the toughest RPGs. As an SNES game, the control layout couldn't be more simple. Jump, run, hit things. But even in these simple actions, a whole lot of depth can be found. The bonus levels and secret sections within each level require intuitive thinking and full use of the surrounding environments.

I could say so much more about this wonderful game. But it just has to be experienced to understand how great a game this is. It ranks up there with Final Fantasy VII and Ocarina of Time, games that pushed their genres to new levels.

Long live Kong!

5 out of 5 stars One of the Best SNES games ever.   October 17, 2007
Erica A. (Texas)
This is my favorite Donkey Kong game out of the 3. All of them are extremely good games-very entertaining. This one is kind of hard if you want to try to get all of the DK coins from all of the levels in order to get the proper ending. You can find some really fun cheats online for this game, which also makes it really fun.

Anyway, this game is one of the classics-up there with Super Mario World and Super Metroid. The soundtrack is amazing (like all of the Donkey Kong Country games), some of the levels get to be quite challenging (especially when you want to find all of the DK coins), and the graphics are really lush and beautiful. I would definitly recommend this game to everyone.

5 out of 5 stars Fun!   June 27, 2007

I love this game, it is very challenging, yet it is fun to play. It's slightly easier than the first game in some aspects (like Dixie can fly short distances), but in other areas it's more difficult.

I liked the bonus stages!
